U.S. Ambassador Gunter invited and welcomed Transportation Security Administration Administrator David Pekoske to Iceland in February 2020 for lengthy bilateral discussions on aviation security — the TSA Administrator’s first visit to Iceland. Aviation security is essential to the security and economy of both our countries. By introducing TSA Administrator David Pekoske to key figures in Iceland’s Ministry of Transport and Local Government and Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he opened prospects for collaboration in transportation security. These discussions aided the bilateral security relationship in a favorable way.
TSA Administrator David Pekoske was then given a roundtable session by U.S. Ambassador Gunter. The roundtable brought together Icelandic executives from the aviation, transportation, and tourist industries, representing both the public and private sectors, and contributed to its success. The importance of aviation to economic success was discussed, as well as how the US and Iceland may interact for mutual gain.
